"Moving Memories"
Ms. Bourassa's paintings focus on the kind of posed-family and pet-cat groupings that usually find their way into keepsake albums. There is a 7-year-old about to blow out birthday candles, for example, and a stiff, frontalized view of two youngsters by the beach.

A considerable amount of planned fiction is present in these large, brightly toned and commanding images.  Although Ms. Bourassa works in a frankly naïve manner, with bold outlines around flat simplified forms, she clearly knows what she is about. Her flair for pattern and composition energizes every bit of surface.  There is such attention to relationships of form, color and overall design that the eye constantly discerns details that have been calculated to achieve a fine balance.
